Fine Art Photography by Frederick M. Stevens

Arizona State Collection

This collection features images of places in the State of Arizona.  While my family rode the "Super Chief" train through the state on our way to California in 1955, my first specific memories of Arizona were in 1965, when we were transferred from Fort Ord, California to Fort Benning Georgia. We were all loaded up in our big white Chevy station wagon, Mom, Dad and us four kids, luggage, road food, maps and water bags.  We crossed the Mojave Desert and then the Colorado River at Topock, AZ.  That night, we stayed in Kingman, AZ.  From the first, I was fascinated by the colors, geology, vegetation and "western" feel of the state.  It seemed that every road sign pointed to a new natural wonder; The Grand Canyon, The Painted Desert, The Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater, the ruins at Wapatki, Canyon de Chelly, Ice Caves, Sunset Crater, and on and on. In later years, as I have come to the Southwest to stay, I have visited these places and tried to photograph them with the same fascination I had as a young teen.  This collection features portfolios of images from Arizona locations elsewhere in this gallery, as well as additional Arizona images that show other places in "The Grand Canyon State". ~φ~ Fred Stevens
